In addition, Michael studied improv at the Lakewood Performing Arts academy. Prior to film work, Michael was active on the stage, most recently playing the lead role of Paul Miller in Murder at the Howard Johnson's at the Edge Theatre. Other theatre credits include supporting roles as Charlie in A View from the Bridge at the Edge Theatre, Pablo in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Germinal Stage, multiple roles, including J. Michael has directed several film shorts, including "The Journey Back," and wrote and played the titular character in the film short version of his feature length screenplay, Thug. Michael's outside interests include hiking up 14,000 foot mountains in the Colorado Rockies, competitive powerlifting, playing blues guitar, and playing Dungeons and Dragons. He was formerly a golden gloves boxer, a decorated police officer and a member of a U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Maritime Defense Zone unit, where he received training in firearms, from handguns to belt-fed machine guns, counterterrorism, and battlefield tactics.
